Summer is slowly creeping up on us, but Zoe Saldaña has just made a statement about the importance of sweaters, at least in terms of style. Today in New York City, the Emilia Pérez star adopted a fashion trick once reserved for the country club elite, now a must-have for fashionistas: the simple off-the-shoulder sweater.

Saldaña, wearing a Gia Studios ensemble, achieved this look by slipping a knit cardigan over her shoulders and tying it around her shoulders. This transitional style is perfect for days like today, when it’s cool in the morning and mild in the afternoon. Once a preppy staple, this look has taken on a more feminine twist in recent years, with sweaters tied around the torso from Kendall Jenner to Hailey Bieber.

Saldaña played up the cherry hue of her sweater-scarf with a form-fitting tank top tucked into a high-waisted maxi skirt. White ankle-strap heels, minimalist jewelry, and sleek glasses completed her look.

Earlier in the day, Saldaña once again embraced easy summer layering. She arrived on Good Morning America wearing a cable-knit jacket with a contrasting white hem. She paired the updated piece with crisp, wide-legged pants. The same accessories were worn throughout the day.

Typically, summer is the season when we completely forgo fall and winter layering. But with a careful Saldaña approach, it’s easy to master the in-between—proof that even in the heat, a few clever styling moves can make all the difference.
