While the world has been vigorously debating whether the skinny jean is truly a renaissance or a forced one, another controversial style seems to be making a more discreet comeback. Today in New York, Elizabeth Olsen revisited the early 2000s cropped pants with a touch of elegance.
Olsen, promoting her new film The Assessment, donned head-to-toe Chanel tweed. Her navy top featured contrasting white stitching and the French brand’s signature gold buttons down the front. A Chanel miniskirt would have been perfectly fine, but Olsen opted for ankle-baring pants. Her capri pants were slightly looser than the body-hugging styles that dominated the 2000s, but still revealed a glimpse of her lower legs, an effect accentuated by the actress’s choice of discreet Mary Janes.

Olsen and her stylist took this look from Chanel’s latest collections, but the French fashion house isn’t the only one bringing capri pants back into fashion. Just a few weeks ago, ankle-length pants graced the runways of Vivienne Westwood and Diesel during the Fall 2025 shows. And just a few months before, capris were a popular choice for Chloé designer Chemena Kamali for Spring 2025.
So, what do other fashionistas think of the capri crop revival? Anya Taylor-Joy, Kendall Jenner, and Bella Hadid all agree. In December 2024, Taylor-Joy wore Kamali’s Chloé capris to an event in Brazil. Jenner is also a fan, wearing cutoffs everywhere from Paris Fashion Week to her Pilates classes. Last spring, Hadid was the first to make a comeback (as usual) by donning black pants for an outing in New York City. The model paired her bottoms with a tailored jacket and open-toe pumps.
With summer just around the corner, it might finally be time to think about digging those dusty capris out of storage.
