Between Dua Lipa and Madonna, pop’s most famous Leos aren’t messing around when it comes to celebrating their birthdays this year. For Madonna, turning 67 meant family time, Pop Mart-worthy desserts, couture outfits, and, in the process, fulfilling her lifelong dream.
Madonna, her boyfriend, Akeem Morris, 28, and their children—Lourdes, 28, Rocco, 25, Mercy, 19, and twins Stella and Estere, 17—headed to Siena, Italy, last weekend to kick off the party. While the Italian Riviera has always been a favorite birthday destination for the star (in 2024, she traveled to the Amalfi Coast), this year she planned to attend the historic Palio di Siena horse race. This event, which dates back to the 14th century, takes place twice a year, on July 2 and August 16, the latter coinciding with Madonna’s birthday.
Madonna and her loved ones had a bird’s eye view of the spectacle, watching from what appeared to be their hotel room. The jockeys, riding bareback, complete three intense laps around the arena, and it’s not uncommon for a rider to be unseated mid-competition. Technically, a horse can still win even if it crosses the finish line without its jockey.
“There are no words to describe the excitement, suspense, and pomp!” she exclaimed on Instagram. “It’s a sacred ritual to see thousands of people silenced before the start of the race! The race itself is indescribable. Grazie Mille!”

A Labubu-themed birthday cake, with the words “Happy Birthday Madudu,” was also added to the day-long celebration. Madonna is, of course, one of the biggest fans of the Pop Mart plush toy and regularly carries it in her designer bags when she goes out.

The musician also shared photos from several parties, including a spontaneous moment where she danced with Rocco, Mercy, and Lourdes. As for her birthday wardrobe, Madonna was daring, of course. She wore everything from sheer lace dresses to baroque corsets and tuxedos, to more pared-down styles like sundresses and raffia hats. True to her style, Madonna seems far from over with her festivities. “It’s still August, so it’s still my birthday. Thanks for coming!” she joked on Instagram.
