This morning at 9:30 a.m. ET, history was made aboard the New Shepard, Blue Origin’s flagship rocket. For the first time, an all-female crew crossed the Karman Line, the symbolic boundary at 100 km altitude that officially marks entry into space. During an 11-minute flight, including four in total weightlessness, six exceptional women defied gravity, norms, and stereotypes: @LaurenSanchez, @gayleking, @katyperry, @aishabowe, @amandangocnguyen, and @spacekerianne.
This flight was not only a technological feat or a demonstration of scientific power. It was also an aesthetic and symbolic statement. In their futuristic suits, custom-made by the fashion house Monse, the astronauts-for-a-day proved that space exploration could also be a platform for expressing fashion and femininity. Behind these suits are Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, the artistic directors of Monse, already known for their avant-garde creations on the red carpet, notably at the 2024 Met Gala. This time, they worked closely with Lauren Sanchez herself, confirming her unique position at the intersection of the media, space, and cultural worlds.
This moment transcends performance. It embodies a rare alliance: that of technology, creativity, and a powerful message about the place of women in fields still too often dominated by men. Lauren Sanchez, journalist and veteran pilot; Gayle King, media icon; Katy Perry, global artist; Aisha Bowe, aerospace engineer; Amanda Nguyen, human rights activist; and Kerianne Flynn, space expert: six women, six journeys, one trajectory to the stars.
Beyond the technical performance, this flight is a celebration. A celebration of excellence, the diversity of female talent, solidarity, and a vision of the future where women occupy their rightful place in every sector: from science to the stage, from technology to haute couture.
With this mission, Blue Origin is sending more than just a rocket into space: it’s sending a message of empowerment, confidence, and elegance. Yes, women can conquer space. And they can do it with panache.
