Jodie Turner-Smith invents a new way to wear a men’s suit

Loose, baggy suits are all the rage, but Jodie Turner-Smith deserves credit for putting her own spin on the trend. The British actress recently appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show in a cropped suit jacket that showed off her flat stomach.

Turner-Smith’s NSFW office blazer featured a cropped silhouette, ’80s-inspired shoulders, and a double-breasted lapel. She paired the long-sleeved piece with layered dress pants designed with a built-in belt. Silver pointed heels contrasted perfectly with Turner-Smith’s dark suit.

For decades, the classic menswear suit has been a go-to for women, on and off the red carpet. But recently, celebrities have taken a liking to oversized pants and even oversized suit jackets: Just look at Elle Fanning and Hailey Bieber, who have both worn similar charcoal gray suits in recent months. Even the biggest luxury houses are banking on loose, voluminous suits. Anthony Vaccarello’s spring 2025 runway for Saint Laurent was full of them.

Turner-Smith is always willing to think outside the box when it comes to testing the latest trends, but this isn’t the first time she’s had fun with reworked suits. At a July 2023 event in New York City, she donned a cropped tuxedo jacket that fell just below her chest. On that occasion, she paired her jacket with a sheer lace bra and loose-fitting, rhinestone-embellished jeans.

Overall, it’s still unclear whether celebrities are more drawn to midriff-baring jackets like Turner-Smith’s or the cocoon-like versions seen elsewhere. However, it’s clear that both groups agree that wide, baggy pants are a must-have for any suit these days.
